FOUR FOCUS GROUPS SCHEDULED
The Kingston City Planning Board has scheduled four focus groups to give the public a chance to meet and question the various consultants that have been working on issues related to the ongoing SEQRA review of the proposed Hudson Landings development. Even though substantial changes have been made to the original proposal, there remain a number of areas of concern. These focus groups—to be held at Kingston City Hall—will offer an excellent opportunity to address some of the major issues surrounding the project.

Wednesday, June 6, 6pm - SESSION ONE: TRAFFIC IMPACTS: Tom Johnson of Creighton Manning Engineering will discuss and answer questions about how Hudson Landings will increase vehicle traffic in the City of Kingston and local roads.

Thursday, June 7, 6pm - SESSION TWO: FINANCIAL CONCERNS: Peter Fairweather of Fairweather Consulting will discuss and answer questions about projected costs for providing municipal services to Hudson Landings as compared with potential new tax revenues.

Tuesday, June 19, 6pm - SESSION THREE: WASTEWATER TREATMENT: Robert Ostapczuk of Malcolm Pirnie will evaluate and address concerns about the existing sewage treatment plant and its ability to handle wastewater from Hudson Landings as well as other developments proposed for Kingston and Esopus.

Wednesday, June 27, 6pm - SESSION FOUR: VISUAL IMPACTS: George Janes of the Environmental Simulation Center and Dan Simone of AVR will discuss and answer questions about the visual appearance of the project both from the water and from the historic district on the other side of the river. They will also describe the standards and guidelines that will govern the the design of the project.

Space is limited, so please pre-register by calling 845-334-3955 or emailing scahill@ci.kingston.ny.us   Try to make it if you can—these focus groups are the best chance we’ve had yet to get complete and up-to-date information about Hudson Landings’ long-term impact on Kingston’s quality of life and economic well-being.

“Driven by Development: the mayor of a built-up town warns others of the risks.”
The New York Times, Aug. 17, 2005

“Developers promise you everything, but you must remember, they are there to make money. And as soon as they are gone, you’re left holding the bag. They [developers] have more lobbying power than the towns, and more experience than many of the mayors and council people. They know more than I’ll ever know about getting what they want.”
Randy George, Republican mayor of North Haledon in Passaic County, N.J., which is verging on maximum build out of its community

“Without effective planning, we are heading toward a high tax base, a relative lack of services, impossibly congested roads and school-tax revolts.”
Mike Edelstein, Democratic candidate for Orange County (N.J.) executive
